Ben is an Australian senior counsel barrister, arbitrator and mediator with over 33 years’ experience in complex commercial disputes, with particular expertise in insolvency, corporate, energy & resources, joint ventures and IP disputes.
Ben’s career began as an insolvency accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co in the late 1980s. He was a senior litigation lawyer for a leading Australian firm, Allens, for 10 years before being called to the Bar in 2003. Ben was appointed Senior Counsel in 2020 and is a leading commercial advocate appearing in the Supreme and Federal Courts in Australia, at trial and appellate level.
Since 2012, Ben has been a member of the faculty of the Australian Bar Association’s week-long Advanced Trial Advocacy Course conducted each January, as well as having represented the ABA as a trainer at equivalent advocacy courses conducted in Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. He has taught advocacy and witness preparation to new barristers at the NSW Bar Practice Course for many years and for professional services firms.
Ben was a member of the NSW Bar Council from 2016 to 2019, and was a member of its Education Committee and one of its Professional Conduct Committees. He was a member of the Board of New Chambers from 2015 to 2019.
